ROLE MODELS

Role models have been a core part of our approach/work. We define a role model as someone with lived experience of crime, abuse or disadvantage who has suffered their negative consequences and who strived for positive change and wants to support at-risk young people. We have run support programmes for role models, trained them in youth work and creative skills on our projects, given them work experience and helped them gain employment.

N2 COMBAT ACADEMY

The N2 Combat Academy launched in April 2017. Every Monday the gym at East Finchley Combat Academy (EFCA) next to the Grange Estate, opens its doors for an evening of fitness training. The space was set-up because local young people told us they wanted access to free activity on their doorstep.

Participants can access weekly training classes, progress within EFCA’s internal grading scheme and receive fitness support from the inspiring staff team. Staff at EFCA have been trained in our safe delivery model, including safeguarding and conflict resolution and they are accompanied by one of our specialist team members who is based in the session, supporting young people's engagement and providing on-the-spot mentoring support.

“I find the MMA sessions fun, hard work and in my opinion I feel like it helps me mentally and physically. Going every week makes me feel like a better person.”
