PROJECTS LIVE
HERSTORY+: NEW THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT GROUP FOR YOUNG BLACK WOMEN
Herstory+ is a brand new support group for young black and mixed heritage women, non-binary and trans young people aged 16-25 in Barnet. Over the course of 12 weeks they will have exclusive access to a weekly safe, creative space in which they will be guided in exploring their identities and ways in which they can heal from their experiences of oppression and harm. They will be gifted tools to accelerate their healing, foster empowerment & take care of their long-term wellbeing.
As part of the project they will be invited to join our monthly podcast ‘Gyal A Loud’ - this is an opportunity for them to draw on their lived experience of issues such as Gender Based Violence and Institutional Racism, imagine solutions for change and create a clear call for action that can then be shared with their communities and those with the power to enact change.
This project has been co-created by a group of young black and black mixed heritage women from Barnet, and is informed by their lived experience and the 15+ years of experience that we have of supporting this community across Barnet. It is run by a team of Black women who are trained Independent Domestic Abuse Advisors and highly experienced in creating culturally informed, innovative support for racialised young people and those whose identities are marginalised.
GRIND SZN: NEW EDUCATION, TRAINING + EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT OFFER
We’ve launched a brand new support offer for young people aged 11-25 in Barnet, our new ‘Grind Szn’ workshops and 1:1 support is a one-stop-shop for everything young people need to smash it at school, plan their next move or propel themselves into the working world.
They can now meet with our team in person, or online - in a space and at a time that works for them. We’re set up to help with anything, whether they are struggling to keep up at school, need a CV that bangs, find a job, prepare for an interview, get a business idea off the ground or need a portfolio for college.
To kick things off over the summer, we’re hosting a ‘take-over’ at one of our weekly creative spaces ‘ELEVATE’ - in which young women, non-binary and trans young people can come and access a dedicated space across the summer. Watch out for up and coming announcements as our Grind Szn events continue to pop up over the course of the year.
SOUND LIVES #2 IS RE-LAUNCHING FOR CARE EXPERIENCED YOUNG PEOPLE THIS SUMMER IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LIVE UNLIMITED
After the success of our collaboration with the charity Live Unlimited last summer, we’re excited to launch round two of our Sound Lives music project which will see care leavers from across Barnet come together to create, produce and perform their own music. Over the course of five days they will learn how to write lyrics, make beats, produce a track and market themselves as artists, and be guided on a journey of personal development by the team of creative professionals and youth workers at Art Against Knives music studio.
This year we will be celebrating everything they achieve with a showcase event for their friends, family and community. We’re excited to update you on everything they achieve and to share their creative talent with you all. Meanwhile, check out the incredible tracks that some of the young artists made on our project last year.
